Today, we’re delighted to present a section from the book-length poem Salto de mantarraya (y otros dos) by the acclaimed Mexican novelist, poet, and playwright Carmen Boullosa in the beautiful new translation by Catherine Hammond. This masterful poem describes the manta ray’s jump from the sea, a passionate metaphor for the act of creation, of pain and birth, of life and dance in spite of death.
And remember, in September and beyond: read and share your favorite poems in translation, and let us know the authors you discover by using #NTM2016. We’re looking forward to hearing from you!
