Carmen-Francesca Banciu is a freelance writer, editor, and teacher of creative writing. She is the author of eight books (four novels and four collections of short stories) and the recipient of numerous literary distinctions and awards. A native of Romania, Banciu lives in Berlin where she emigrated in 1990. She started writing in German in 1996. Her work draws from the experience of writing under Communist dictatorship, from geographic, psychic and linguistic migrations, and cross-cultural conflicts and exchanges between East and West.
